The US Barber Quarter of the Late 19th and Early 20th Century

Michael Kaufman is a respected upstate New York entrepreneur who guides Buy Your Coins and leverages a lifetime of numismatic knowledge to purchase and sell quality gold and silver pieces, from Morgan silver dollars to Gold Buffalos. Among the US-issued silver coins that Michael Kaufman actively seeks are quarters such as Standing Liberty, Liberty Seated, Draped Bust, and Barber issues.

Minted from 1892 to 1916, the Barber quarter is also known as the Liberty Head for its depiction of the stoic profile of lady liberty. It has a design that also fronted dimes and quarters of the time. The distinct issue gets its name from Charles E. Barber, who was Chief Engraver at the US Mint during this period.

Relatively inexpensive, even in comparison to many silver quarters that came after, the Barber quarter is typically within the $75 to $200 range in EF - AU condition, just below Uncirculated. Sought-after exceptions include the 1901 Barber (S) and the 1913 Barber (S), which had extremely limited print runs and can reach values of tens of thousands of dollars.
